Simple Reefkeeping

Simple reefkeeping is my philosophy…

The things I always hear when I tell people that I keep a saltwater aquarium is that they hear it’s a lot of work.  A close second is that it cost a lot of money.  While I do spend time and money on the hobby that we love, I try to keep my costs as low as possible and my maintenance as simple as possible.  I want to spend my time enjoying my hobby!

So, I tried out all different ways to enjoy my hobby, while making sure the maintenance and upkeep is as simple as possible.  You may find that I don’t follow best practices of doing immense water changes.  I have not plumbed a sump.  I don’t keep any mechanical filtration.  No canister filters (my algae reactor doesn’t count).  No sponges, filter socks, no carbon or any other kind of media.  I run my tank on a protein skimmer and a diy algae reactor.  It may not work for everyone, but it works for me.  Here’s how things are looking so far:

Anyways, I am looking forward to sharing my adventure with you!  To read more about how I arrived here, read my about page.
